  15. <p>     DIED. Edward Carlson, 78, former bellhop who became CEO of
  16. the hotel and airline chain UAL, Inc. and chairman of the
  17. successful 1962 Seattle World's Fair; in Seattle. As head of
  18. Western International Hotels when it merged with United
  19. Airlines in 1970, he reorganized the failing airline and
  20. temporarily restored its profitability. He is credited with the
  21. inspiration for building Seattle's landmark Space Needle as the
  22. centerpiece for the World's Fair.
